- Chandigarh: 21/02/22:-(ALPHA NEWS INDIA DESK):—-National Science Week ‘Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate’ (in Sanskit, which means Science and Technology is revered all over) to be celebrated by Panjab University from February 22-28,2022
A potpourri of Lectures by Eminent Experts, Movie Screenings, Exhibitions (Vigyan Prasar, DRDO etc.), Book exhibition, Bicycle Ride and various competitions and outreach activities sensitizing one and all, to mark the week-long celebrations to promote awareness and popularization of science
Panjab University, Chandigarh and Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, (PSCST), Chandigarh is jointly organizing ‘Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate’ (Glorious Science week festival) from February 22-28, 2022, which is a part of the National initiative (involving 75 locations in the country) taken by Principal Scientific Advisor (PSA) and Ministry of Culture (Govt. of India) in association with Vigyan Prasar under the pan India programme of ScoPE (Science Communication & Popularization and its extension) to rejoice 75th year of Independence, Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Various events on various themes will be held as a part of this week-long celebrations to create awareness on varied themes related to science and technology. Lectures by Eminent experts on all days shall be held to motivate and ignite the spirit of science. Working in coordination with various government organizations, the celebrations will showcase exhibitions by Vigyan Prasar, DRDO, Publication Bureau etc., which will be on display at Panjab University throughout the week. A collection of movies on the theme of science and technology shall also be screened.
The week will kick-start on 21st February with a bicycle ride to be flagged off by Dr. Jatinder Kaur Arora, Executive Director, PSCST from Panjab University campus to Sukhna lake and back. The inaugural session will be held on 22nd February, followed by competitions and events around the campus departments, institutes, city schools and city colleges throughout the week. The 23rd will witness various school level competitions organized by Ankur School, Panjab University campus, involving students of a large number of city schools on the theme, Annals of History. A Poster competition with the theme, ‘Milestones of Modern Science and Technology’ is being organized at various PU departments and institutes under various sub-sections (Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Medical Sciences), on 24thFeb. ‘Swatantrata Walkathon’ from English Auditorium to Student Centre shall also be held by students of Dr H. S. Judge Institute of Dental Studies. The 25th will witness activities like Poster Competition, Innovative Idea Presentation Competition and an Extempore Speech Competition, related to Swadeshi-Paramparik-Inventions and Innovations theme, being organized at DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh and shall involve all the city colleges. A number of activities like open mic competition, slogan writing, and Pitch Perfect events are also organized in the campus institutes (Dr H. S. Judge Institute of Dental Studies and University Institute of Applied Management Studies). The next day is dedicated to the Science Literature Festival and shall witness screening of science related movies, ‘Unmukt’-a mask painting competition, and a photo competition on the theme ‘Jan Jan mein Vigyan’. The 26th is dedicated to the theme ‘Science and Technology in Next 25 years’ which is being organized by University Institute of Engineering and Technology. Competitions on ‘Ideathon’ and Quiz will have participation from all the professional engineering colleges from the city. Another highlight of the event will be a special lecture to be delivered by eminent virologist of the country, Dr. Gagandeep Kang, under the Har Gobind Khorana Lecture Series conceptualized by PSCST and INST, Mohali. An Open-Day is also being planned during the week. The Centre for Social Work, Panjab University will also be organizing an Essay Writing Competition on the topic, ‘Leveraging Science and Technology for a self-reliant India’. Various Outreach activities consisting of a Mobile dental and engineering exhibition visiting various places, is also planned during the week. The valedictory session will be held on 28th February. All the activities shall be live streamed on dedicated social media handles.
The event is likely to create lot of enthusiasm in the city as this will be a historic event of science popularization and communication as the saying goes ‘Science in not finished until it is communicated’.
