Chandigarh : May, 2017: ALPHA news INDIA ;—A raid was conducted today under the supervision of Smt. Kriti Garg, IAS, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Central), UT Chandigarh at 01:00 PM at Sector-16, Sector-23 and Sector-08 Chandigarh along with the Sanitary Inspectors, MOH, Municipal Corporation, UT Chandigarh to seize the polythene bags being used by the hawkers and shopkeepers. A total of approximately 1.75 Quintals of polythene bags have been seized by the staff and the same have been handed over at Garbage Processing Plant, Sector-25, Chandigarh. 9 challans worth Rs. 5000/- per head and 5 challans worth Rs. 500/- per head has been charged . This raid was conducted after intensive awareness campaign by the office of S.D.M. (Central). This raid is a part of the overall campaign being run by the D.C. office to enforce the ban on the polythene bags in the city. More such raids are likely to be conducted in the future also.
