Prof. Archana R Singh of the School of Communication Studies has been selected as a
part of the  peer reviewer panel for a new study commissioned by UNESCO titled
`Youth and violent extremism on social media: Mapping the research’ by Séraphin
Alava, Divina Frau-Meigs, Ghayda Hassan, Hasna Hussein and Yuanyuan Wei. Prof Singh
is the only member of the reviewers panel from India, other members being from
different organization such as   Université Paris-Nanterre (France), Laboratoire
Parisien de Psychologie Sociale  Concordia University Canada, Google Inc. (USA), Moi
University, Nairobi Campus (Kenya), London School of Economics and Political Science
(United Kingdom)
Prof Archana R Singh has contributed towards finalizing the draft of the study and
suggested improvements. Her contribution has been acknowledged by UNESCO. The study
outlines the role played by social media in radicalization of youth the world over.
It also talks about online censorship, surveillance, counter-speech and discusses
the function of Internet.

This work provides a global mapping of research (mainly during 2012-16) into the
assumed roles played by social media in violent radicalization processes, especially
as they affect youth and women. The study is available at
