Chandigarh ; 9th December : ALPHA NEWS INDIA ; Smt. Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament, Chandigarh flagged off two vehicles for addressing the immediate needs children under vulnerable conditions and four Annapurna Vans at Indian Red Cross Society, U.T., Branch today in the presence of . Rajiv Gupta, PCS, ADC cum Secretary Red Cross Chandigarh.
The District Child Protection Society under the aegis of the Deputy Magistrate/Collector purchased vehicles for addressing the immediate needs of children under vulnerable conditions such as children in need of care and protection and children in conflict with law. The vehicles will be used for the intervention of various cases of children i.e. cases of POCSO, drives of child labour, child beggar, inspections/visits in Child care institutions and other related work in Chandigarh. A sum of Rs 14 Lacs has been released by the Member of Parliament, U.T., Chandigarh under the MPLAD scheme for the purchase of two vehicles for District Child Protection Society.
Annapurna Akshyapatra
Indian Red Cross Society, UT, Branch, Chandigarh initiated the project ” Annapurna Akshyapatra” to provide affordable, hygienic and nutritious diet to the laborers, industrial workers and all the needy in the city with support of the Chandigarh Administration and different philanthropists. This unique venture was launched on 02.01.2017.
The food packet consists 6 Chapatis, Sabzi and achaar with cost of Rs 10 . Initially 500 food packets were supplied to locations which have now been increased to 2600-2800 food packets in view of the requirement of the locations.

The total no of food packets prepared and distributed from January 2017 to November 2017 is 7,13,890 and Rs 71,38,900 have been collected from sale of food packets. In addition to above, a sum of Rs 67,26,310 have been received as donation from various donors towards this project.
Donation of vehicles from MPLAD scheme
A sum of Rs 16,86,540 has been released by Smt. Kirron Kher, hon’ble Member of Parliament, U.T, Chandigarh under MPLAD scheme for purchase of 4 vehicles for Annapurna Akhayapatra Yojana. 4 TATA Ace vehicles have been purchased amounting Rs 16,86,540. In addition, the cost of fabrication of 4 vehicles in Rs 42,800.
