500 School students enjoyed migratory birds watching tours

CHANDIGARH ; Dec. 22nd : ALPHA NEWS INDIA ;—– Today, on the last day of weeklong migratory birds watching tours for School children organized by Department of Forests & Wildlife, Chandigarh Administration & Yuvsatta-an NGO, 50 students Sri Guru Harkrishan Model SrSecondary School, Sector 40C, Chandigarh, visited the regulator end of Sukhna Lake to watch and learn life-skills from life of birds.
On the occasion Santosh Kumar, Conservator of Forests, Chandigarh Administration said that in the last one week they had organized such visits for different Government & Private Schools of the city and around 500 young children were sensitized through this programme about the important role Birds play, as birds provide critical links within the vast food chains and webs that exist in our ecosystem.
He further said that the annual migration of hundreds of migratory birds to Sukhna Lake is one of the nature’s most energetic and awe-inspiring phenomenon. And over the years there Department had made adequate arrangements for the birds to thrive and grow.
Sarbjeet Kaur an avid bird watcher resource person for the programme from Yuvsatta said that students today saw many beautiful birds like Red Crested Pochard, Ferruginous Pochard, Ruddy Shelduck, Eurasian coot & wigeon, Mallard, Gadwall, Common Teal, Northern Shoveler, Toughted  & Common Pochard, Northern Pintail etc.
On the occasion Kulbhushan Kanwar, wildlife photographer and environmentalist also exhibited his rich collections of photographs of wildlife and migratory birds to bring youngsters more closer to nature and learn from life of birds.
Summing up the initiative Pramod Sharma, Coordinator of Yuvsatta shared that  we humans can learn lot more from birds, there exemplary team spirit, self-discipline in daily routine. Life is created in such a way so as to enable us to withstand the challenges and overcome the hardships it brings. And if there’s one creature in nature that’s a perfect example of this, it’s undoubtedly the bird, with all its patience and perseverance.
